Mike has been teaching my daughter Kayla the drums for almost a year now and his level of experience and knowledge is only outdone by his enthusiasm and passion for teaching. He has nutured and instilled not only a love of music that my daughter already possessed but has given her the self confidence in her ability to learn that is intangible. Its a rare combination in an individual with his musical talents to be able to transfer that knowledge in a way that promotes learning and growth.
Comment by Scott Gentz May 15, 2009 @ 9:19 amI’m posting this on behalf of a parent who wasn’t sure how to put it up.
“I believe Mike Roberts Music Studio (Mike Roberts-instuctor) has helped my child/student in several different aspects…1) believes in sudents-helps them to believe in themselves 2) makes “friends” with his students-fatherlike 3) helps raise childs self-esteem with helping them learn 4) Musically, he has learned grooves, notes, riffs, measures,4,8, and 16th notes, beats, and approximately 25 songs. (My son has taken lessons for two years.) My husband and myself are very pleased with our son’s progress and Mike’s ability to keep our son interested in Music/drums. Thank you, Becky Norman”
Comment by Mike Roberts May 15, 2009 @ 8:05 amMike Roberts is an all around great guy. You are not just another student to him, you are a person with unique desires and goals. Mike listens to you and gives you what you want and what you need. I would go to no other teacher than Mike. He knows the instruments with mastery and instructs the students with great skill. I have seen him work with teams and also one to one with excellence. Mike is number one. I refer everyone I know to Mike. There is no one better in Rockford. Thanks Mike for investing your life and passion into countless lives we have all benefited from you.
Comment by Dave January 6, 2007 @ 8:56 amI have been taking lessons from Mike for about two and a half years. I came to him with about a year and a half of self teaching and thought I was all that and two bags of chips. He showed me there is alot to know about the musical world and you will never stop learning. Everytime I tell him I think I have learned enough about the bass lets start on a different instrument, he shows me something that I have never seen or heard before that makes me step back and realize I have alot more to learn (this last time it was Jaco Pastorius). But he has a way about him that never seems offending or stand-offish. And thats the biggest thing, Mike works at the pace you want to work at, teaches you not only the things you would like to learn but the prerequisites as well. But the biggest thing is that he motivates me to practice and be the best I can. In closing i would like to personally thank Mike for not giving up on me, and keeping me as a student.

I have had the pleasure of taking guitar lessons from Mike for just over a year. I am so impressed with his teaching method, that I have referred several other students to him. Mike has a gift for communicating technique. I have wanted to learn to play for quite some time and took lessons from three other teachers who could play but not teach. Mike does both very well. He listens to where you want to take your playing and helps you get there. He also has a nice way of telling you that you need to practice more, which I do. I enjoy meeting with Mike each week and learning something new. Thanks for your wisdom and patience.
Comment by Ron F. December 18, 2006 @ 11:57 amI have been taught to play the guitar for over one-and-a-half years by Mike Roberts. Mike has taught me so much more than just playing the guitar; he has taught me to love it. He doesn’t confine you to play a certain way of music. He wants you to watch yourself grow and master something in your own unique way. Not only does he teach me how to play the guitar, but he also advances my vocals so that I can be an all-around great guitarist. In addition he uses different instruments to help me accompany any instrument while I play the guitar. I look forward each week to meeting with him and in advancing my skills. Nice job Mike!
Comment by Gabe O. December 11, 2006 @ 6:05 pmMike Roberts has been teaching me electric guitar for almost 4 years now. He is a fantastic teacher who can easily incorporate theory and scales in a way I understand. Not only that, but he has taught me how to write my own music instead of just teaching me how to play other people’s music. He is also interested in what I want to do with music and brings that in to his lessons as a source of motivation. He does not only teach guitar though, he also teaches bass guitar, drums and vocals. The bass player in my band is also taking lessons from him, and soon I believe my drummer and rhythm guitar player plan on doing the same thing. He has studied several different styles of music and is in no way limited to just one style or genre. Keep up the good work Mike!
