5 Ways to Overcome Doubt & Discouragement

Burnout can happen to the best of us. It’s not that there’s something wrong with us, and it’s certainly not that it’s the end of the world. But it can sure feel like that when we’re discouraged.

To help you through the inevitable stages of frustration that come with any endeavor, here are some tips in the latest installment of the lists of five series: 5 WAYS TO OVERCOME DOUBT & DISCOURAGEMENT.

1. Remember why you’re doing this in the first place. Maybe some outer, superficial motivation has gotten entangled with your original, internal motivation. Maybe that outside force needs to take a back seat for a while.

2. Remember that no one gets it right the first time. Anyone who’s good at anything was first not so good, and wherever you’re at right now, they’ve been there too. If at first you don’t succeed… welcome to the club!

3. Remember that the art of mastery lies in repetition. Remember that the art of mastery lies in repetition. Remember that the art of mastery lies in repetition.

4. Remember that help is always as close as a phone call or a good book. Most people who have gone down the same path you’re on remember how difficult it was for them and are glad to offer their help either in person or through their published work. It’s up to you to seek it out.

5. Try it again—maybe it’ll work this time. This may seem like the the most trivial solution, especially if you’ve already tried it 973 times, but it’s usually the one that all the others ultimately point to.

Nothing is more inspiring for me than to listen to the beautiful music I want to learn to play. Posting goals and keeping positive, uplifting
“sayings” within easy sight helps me too. Music is truly a language of the soul and an expression of the heart. It can touch people deep inside and change lives forever. What a gift. What a privilage.
